The Mughal Chief Minister of the State was called the Wazir. His functions and powers were rather limited to assisting the monarch in the day-to-day administration of the empire, similar to a chief secretary, and control of the finances. In unusual times, however, he sometimes assumed actual control of the empire, leaving the emperor a mere puppet.
